The Virginia Tech viticulture team (Drew, Tremain, and I) will hold a series of workshops where we will discuss these diseases in depth. Please attend one of these so that you can better prepare for the 2025 season. Some of the workshops are also aimed at vineyard workers, with help from Ms. Beth Sastre (indicated by an asterisk on the title).

Pruning workshop*
In this meeting, we will discuss the pros and cons of different viticulture and disease management practices during pruning and demonstrate them in the field.

Grape Disease Management workshops
This workshop will cover the basics of grape disease management tools and options, then visit key grape diseases according to their appearance under typical Virginia field conditions. We will cover symptoms (disease identification), management options, fungicide resistance, and current recommendations. Please bring your questions so we can discuss them while covering each disease. There will be two workshops with the same content.

Disease and insect pest identification workshop (hybrid)*
We will present materials for vineyard pests and disease identification. We will go through many pictures and descriptions of the target pests and diseases (e.g., where and when you tend to find them).

Grape IPM workshop (hybrid)
This is a lecture-style workshop on grapevine management. We will discuss viticulture, diseases, insects, and weed management.

I am looking forward to seeing you in one (or more) of these meetings—and, of course, at the VVA! We will discuss a few topics, such as Pierce’s Disease, Viruses, and Nutrient Management, and encourage participants to share their stories on management and tips and tricks.
